Marpole Business Association Annual General Meeting

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

SEP 2009 — The Marpole Business Association will host its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 at 6:30 PM at the Coast Vancouver Airport Hotel, located at Oak Street and SW Marine Drive.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy dinner and an evening out, to meet your fellow business colleagues, and learn more about the activities of the Marpole Business Association.

Watch for your AGM information package, dropped off or mailed to you in August 2009 or updates here.

The AGM will consist of a short meeting, and will be
accompanied by dinner and refreshments.

We are pleased to confirm that our Guest Speaker will be Dr. Moira Stilwell, MLA Vancouver-Langara.

Dr. Stilwell was elected during the May Provincial election, and has been appointed Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development.

The AGM is an excellent opportunity to meet your fellow members and learn more about the many exciting things happening in the Marpole business community.

Marpole BIA updates Association Bylaws

In the Annual General Meeting information package, you will find a copy of the Notice of Special Resolution to rescind and replace the existing Association bylaws.

This resolution will be debated and voted on at the AGM on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM at the Coast Airport Hotel (SW Marine Dr. and Oak St.).

The changes to the existing bylaws include some small administrative updates, as well as the
addition of a new bylaw section permitting proxy voting at future Annual General Meetings.

We encourage you to read the enclosed Notice and contact us should you have any questions
or concerns about the draft revised bylaws or anything else in this AGM package.

About the MBA AGM

The Marpole Business Association's Annual General Meeting brings members together to meet and chat with fellow business people, take in the short meeting, and listen to the guest speaker's presentation.

The Marpole Business Association's Annual General Meeting is held for the following purposes:

  • to review the activities of the Association including upcoming plans;
  • to appoint an auditor for the coming year;
  • to receive and adopt the plan and budget for the next year;
  • to elect a board of directors;
  • to approve the revision of MBA Bylaws; and
  • to transact such further and other business as may properly come before the meeting and any adjournment or adjournments thereof.

Voting Requirements:

To be eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting, you must own or lease property within the Marpole BIA boundaries or be representing the aforementioned.

You must also complete and return the Membership Registration Form on or before the deadline ( Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009).

You or your representative must attend the meeting in order to vote.

Draft Budget for 2010-2011:

The Board of Directors is pleased to report that it has maintained the 2010-2011 member levy funding rate at the 2009-2010 budget level of $150,000.

For the second consecutive year, there has been no increase in the member levy funding rate.
The Board of Directors has worked very hard to ensure that the Association is accountable for all monies spent on behalf of members, for specific programs and projects focused on ensuring the improved economic development of our members.
