Marpole Business Association Annual General Meeting

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

SEP 2011 — Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Marpole Business Association (BIA) will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 at the Coast Airport Hotel (Marine Drive and
Oak St.), for the following purposes:

  • to review the activities of the Association
    including upcoming plans;
  • to appoint an auditor for the coming year;
  • to receive and adopt the 2012-2013 plan and
    budget;
  • to review the renewal plan for 2012-2019;
  • to elect a board of directors; and
  • to transact such further and other business
    as may properly come before the Meeting &
    any adjournment or adjournments thereof.

Voting Requirements: To be eligible to vote at
the Annual General Meeting, you must own or lease
property within the Marpole BIA boundaries or be
representing the aforementioned.

You must also complete and return the Membership Registration Form before Thursday, September 15th, 2011.

You or your representative must attend the meeting in
order to vote.

The proposed Marpole Business Association Draft Budget levy for 2012-2013 totals $157,500. This draft budget permits a modest increase in the MBA's funding level to allow for future projects and programming needs. The MBA has not increased its budget for the past four years. Fiscal management of MBA funds by the Board of Directors has been prudent and accountable to the membership at the Annual General Meetings. Member priorities, as evidenced in the 2011 Member Survey and in the 2010 Long-Range Strategic Plan, have demonstrated a need for continued maintenance of existing projects, and a desire to explore new programming options. The future success and effectiveness of the MBA in serving its members' interests is dependent upon moderate budgetary growth. Over the course of the proposed renewal mandate of seven years - from 2012-2019 - the MBA seeks to
achieve a funding cap of $1,500,000.

Marpole BIA updates Association Bylaws

In the Annual General Meeting information package, you will find a copy of the Notice of Special Resolution to rescind and replace the existing Association bylaws.

This resolution will be debated and voted on at the AGM on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM at the Coast Airport Hotel (SW Marine Dr. and Oak St.).

The changes to the existing bylaws include some small administrative updates, as well as the
addition of a new bylaw section permitting proxy voting at future Annual General Meetings.

We encourage you to read the enclosed Notice and contact us should you have any questions
or concerns about the draft revised bylaws or anything else in this AGM package.

Draft Budget for 2010-2011:

The Board of Directors is pleased to report that it has maintained the 2010-2011 member levy funding rate at the 2009-2010 budget level of $150,000.

For the second consecutive year, there has been no increase in the member levy funding rate.
The Board of Directors has worked very hard to ensure that the Association is accountable for all monies spent on behalf of members, for specific programs and projects focused on ensuring the improved economic development of our members.
