Marpole Business Association AGM '08
The Marpole Business Association will host its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 25th at 6:30 PM at the Coast Vancouver Airport Hotel, located at Oak Street and SW Marine Drive.
This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy dinner and an evening out, to meet your fellow business colleagues, and learn more about the activities of the Marpole Business Association.

OCTOBER 2007 UPDATE:
The Marpole Business Association's Annual General Meeting held on
September 27th brought members together to meet and chat with fellow business
people, take in the short meeting, and listen to the guest speaker's presentation.
MBA President Michael Tee offered a comprehensive overview of the past
year of MBA operations for 2006-2007. It was an extremely busy and productive
year for the Association. Projects and programs included;
* Member Programs & Benefits - Web site – www.marpoleonline.com; Quarterly "marpole
update" newsletter; Street Beat commercial vacancy listing; BizMap commercial district profile.
* Member Advocacy - Membership in Fair Tax Coalition – resulting in 2% shift to residential
for new fiscal year; Pedestrian & Crosswalk study – in partnership with the City of Vancouver.
* Street Beautification - 63rd Avenue Gateway Beautification Project; Side street landscaping
program; 70th Avenue median beautification partnership with City; Christmas Lights; Decorative
Flower Pot program; Seasonal banner program; Coast Foundation clean-up crews; Graffiti Inventory;
Sidewalk pressure-washing.
* Events - Great Marpole Trick-or-Treat Halloween event; Christmas in Marpole event
– Santa Stroll, Caroling, Walk with Mary & Joseph; Chinese New Year poster greeting; April Rainy
Day Sale; Marpole Summerfest.
* Community & Big Picture Stuff - Marpole Official Community Plan meetings; Eburne Lands
Issue – Fraser River walkway development; VEDC Study of Marpole – Small Business BC – BizMap
program for community & commercial district; Input on Marpole West Traffic Plan; Coordination with
Marpole Community Policing Committee and Liaison Officer.
Guest Speaker Roger Thorinbelt, Secretary of the Kerrisdale-Oakridge-
Marpole Community Policing Centre (KOMCPC), spoke about the Centre's
organization and programs, some of which include; volunteer bike patrols, a
child-find identification program and graffiti paint-out programs.
He also addressed member concerns about crime and safety in the Marpole
community, which he indicated is currently better than the westside average for the most frequent calls regarding residential and commercial break & enters, and theft of and from autos.
The MBA looks forward to building a closer relationship with the KOMCPC
and its liaison officer Cst. Ray Gardner.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General
Meeting of the Marpole Business Association (BIA) will
be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, September 27th, 2007
at the Coast Airport Hotel (Marine Drive and Oak St.),
for the following purposes;
- to review the activities of the Association including upcoming plans;
- to appoint an auditor for the coming year;
- to receive and adopt the 2008-2009 plan and
budget;
- to elect a board of directors; and
- to transact such further and other business
as may properly come before the Meeting &
any adjournment or adjournments thereof.
Voting Requirements: To be eligible to vote at
the Annual General Meeting, you must own or lease
property within the Marpole BIA boundaries or be
representing the aforementioned.
You must also complete and return the enclosed
Membership Registration Form (see inside) on or
before Thursday, September 27th, 2007.
You or your representative must attend the meeting in
order to vote. As per the Marpole BIA constitution, proxy
voting is not permitted.

The AGM will consist of a short meeting, and will be
accompanied by dinner and refreshments.
The Guest Speaker will be Cst. Tony Chambers, of
the Vancouver Police Department. Cst. Chambers will be
discussing safety and security issues relevant to commercial
properties and business owners.
The AGM is an excellent opportunity to meet your fellow
members and learn more about the many exciting things
happening in the Marpole business community.
