Marpole Car Free Festival

On behalf of the Marpole Car Free Day Committee, we regret to announce that the Marpole Car Free Day Festival will not be going ahead this year on June 15th, 2008, or on any other date this summer.

This difficult decision was reached by the Committee after several enthusiastic attempts to organize the Festival in Marpole, and the challenges involved in achieving the necessary road closure on Granville St. While the Committee did examine alternative road closure locations, the consensus was that time, resource issues and the fervent desire to have the event on Granville this year, meant that we could not go ahead with the Festival as planned and hoped for.

We look forward to celebrating this great event in one of the other participating neighbourhoods on June 15th, and hope you will as well.
We are agreed to meet with city staff in the Fall to discuss future Car Free Day arrangements, with an eye to hosting our own Marpole event in the near future.

We particularly wish to thank Matt Hern and Carmen Mills from the Commercial Drive Festival for their excellent and enthusiastic support from the very beginning of this process.

Thank you for your support, and here's to "Next Year on Granville!"
