JAN 2010 - The Marpole Business Association is pleased to present the second annual Chinese Lion Dance Tour of Marpole.

This event will be held in celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Tiger on Thursday, February 18th, at 11 AM on Granville Street.

Event Details

Merchants are encouraged to participate in this exciting cultural event by contacting the Marpole BIA at 604-418-8232 to register and reserve their spot.

The Lion will follow a winding route along Granville St., stopping to perform its blessing ritual at participating merchants.

Participating merchants are required to hang $20 in a lucky red envelope (which the Marpole BIA will provide) at the outside entrance to their store or business premise. (Merchants may
choose to hold the envelope for the Lion.) Merchants are also encouraged to hang Chinese lettuce as an offering for the Lion.

(If you are interested in an interior blessing, there is an additional $20 fee, and you must pre-register this additional blessing at the time of booking.)

The Chinese Lion Tour will be a thrilling display of dance and music, ringing in New Year blessings and good luck for everyone in the Marpole community.

Presented by the Marpole Business Association, in conjunction with Angel Entertainment Management.

Members of the Marpole Business Association will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting event. If you receive this newsletter, you are eligible to register for a special blessing of your business by the lucky Chinese Lion, for only $20.

The Chinese Lion will visit your participating business, perform its dance and blessing, and accept the offering of a lucky red envelope. Traditional offerings of lettuce are also welcome. (*Please note that you are responsible for cleaning up the lettuce immediately after it is consumed by the Lion.)

If you would like the Lion to visit the interior of your business, an additional $20 fee is required.

Pre-registration for this event is on a first-come, first-served basis.

MARCH 2009 — The first annual Chinese Lion Dance Tour of the Marpole commercial district, in honour of the Chinese New Year of the Ox, was a huge success.

Twenty-eight member businesses signed on to participate in individual blessings by the Lion, and offered the traditional lucky red envelope and lettuce offering to the Lion.

The Lion performed an energetic physical dance for each participating merchant, as well as touring the entire commercial district and granting blessings for Marpole for the lucky New Year of the Ox.

The Lion Dance was performed by members of the Yau Kung Moon (Canada) Athletic Institute, and developed quite a following of kids and adults as it moved along Granville St.

Special thanks to Scarlett Pan, of Edward Jones Investments, for her tireless efforts to promote this important cultural event! Thanks also to Angie Chow of Angel Entertainment Management for her assistance.

The Chinese Lion tour will take place on the 12th Lunar Day of the Chinese New Year holiday, on Friday, February 6th, 2009 at 10 AM on Granville St. In partnership with Angel Entertainment Management, the Chinese Lion Tour will be an exciting cultural celebration for the Marpole commercial district and community!
