Vancouver Parking Tax is axed
On March 8th, Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon made
public his intention to get rid of the Parking Tax.
This decision was welcomed by many commercial
businesses and retailers who had opposed the tax through the
Park the Tax Coalition.
The Parking Tax had posed a serious challenge for retailers
already paying high levels of property tax.
The Parking Tax also represented a growing imbalance
between the taxation burdens placed on residential versus
commercial taxpayers with commercial taxpayers paying five to
six times more tax.
The Marpole BIA remains committed, as part of its
advocacy through the Vancouver Fair Tax Coalition, to lobbying
City Council to reduce the commercial taxation imbalance in
Vancouver in this year's City budget.
