Members of the Board of Directors met for several hours with the Mayor, discussing the issues of importance to our business members and the community at large.

These issues included the potential for EcoDensity and increased densification
along the Granville St. corridor and in the Marpole community; the future development and importance of public access along the Fraser River waterfront; and the general development of Marpole, both along Granville St. and further east, along the CanadaLine on Cambie St.

The Directors also brought up the importance of crime and security issues amongst our members, as well as the concern over the municipal tax burden placed upon businesses.

The Directors extended their appreciation to the Mayor and his NPA caucus for supporting a taxation shift and tax freeze on the business community, in order to ease the burden of inequitable taxation in the city.

There is a common understanding that the health and viability of small businesses and local neighbourhood shopping districts is critical to the future economic health of Vancouver.
