It's time to celebrate summer!

The Twelfth Annual Marpole Summerfest event will take place on Saturday, July 14th, from 11 AM to 3 PM, along Granville Street between 63rd and 71st Avenues.

Sidewalk sales and merchant promotions, musicians and balloon artists, face painters and juggling shows, on-street chalk murals, and a classic car Show 'n Shine - all of this adds up to a fun-filled, family-oriented community celebration!

Merchants who have taken advantage of the Association's sponsorship and coordination of this event in the past have increased both their sales and customer counts.

For many participating merchants, Marpole Summerfest has become one of the busiest sales days of the entire year.

No matter what kind of business you run or service
you provide, you CAN participate in Summerfest and
market your business to the community.

  1. Designate 1 key item as your "Summerfest Special" - to bring people
into your business. This can be a food item, a product or special service that your business
provides. If you are in the food service business, please have your set-up complete and
food ready to eat by 11 AM. People arrive hungry!
  2. Advertise your "Summerfest Special" in the Vancouver Courier. Spread the word beyond your store and into the homes of Vancouver's west side neighbourhoods. We will publish the
Summerfest event schedule will be printed in the Courier and online.
  3. Print or copy flyers to put inside customer shopping bags in the weeks prior to July 14th. Advertise the specials you intend to offer to your customers for Summerfest; maybe even include a coupon to reward them for their patronage - to be used after July 14th.
  4. Take it to the street! Set up a table in front of your store with sale merchandise and/or product or food samples. The key to your success with Marpole Summerfest is
PARTICIPATION. The MBA office would be more than happy to help you find your key to success.

Summerfest Entertainment - A great day for all ages

There will be a wide variety of fun, family-oriented entertainment at this year's 12th Annual Summerfest event.

There will be two locations for the Rainbow Facepainters this year, and Peanuts the Clown, Juggler Sand Northrup, Sylvia Mathies 'balloon artist extraordinaire', and musician Rachel Chatoor, will add their talents to the festivities as they rove along Granville Street.

Returning this year will be the Marpole Musical stage on 67th Avenue, featuring Tiller's Folly and other talented acts; and the KidsZone Fun Fair, featuring a temporary tatto tent, games, and community booths from the City of Vancouver, Marpole Historical Society & Museum, and the Marpole Community Policing Office.

Many talented musical acts will also be present to liven up the atmosphere along Granville Street. These include jazz musicians the Doe Bender Trio, rock n' roll duo Noah Nine, the Ray Myers Band, and Ragtime Ron and the Riverboat Ramblers.

This year marks the return of the very popular classic car Show & Shine for its seventh year. Due to Safeway's redevelopment, the Show & Shine will be located at the Petro Canada parking lot this year, just north of HSBC.

As part of the chArt Marpole Public Art project, Emily Carr University illustration students will be chalking up a storm on 66th Avenue as we sketch out a VIVA Vancouver permanent on-street mural design. Community residents & kids are invited to participate, as well as critique the chalk art designs.

Our radio media sponsors, the Beat 94.5 & 103.5 QM FM will be on hand with their Community Crews, handing out food samples and adding to the music mix!

Invite all your customers, clients and patients to come and enjoy this year's FREE Summerfest fun!

Thanks to our sponsors: the Vancouver Courier, the Beat 94.5 FM, 103.5 QMFM, VIVA Vancouver, and Petro Canada!
