JUN 2011 — There will be a wide variety of fun, family-oriented entertainment at this year’s 11th Annual Summerfest event.

There will be two locations for the Rainbow Facepainters this year, and Peanuts the Clown, Juggler Sand Northrup, Sylvia Mathies ‘balloon artist extraordinaire’, Bobby Loonie Magic Show, and musician Rachel Chatoor, will add their talents to the festivities as they rove along Granville Street.

Returning this year will be the Marpole Musical stage on 66th Avenue, featuring Tiller’s Folly and other talented
acts; and the KidsZone Fun Fair on 67th Avenue, complete with huge bouncy castle, tattoo tent, the Art Express
Bus, and community booths from the Vancouver Aquarium and Community Policing Office.

Many talented musical acts will also be present to liven up the atmosphere along Granville Street.

These include jazz musicians the Doe Bender Trio, rock n’ roll duo Noah Nine, the Ray Myers Band, and Ragtime Ron and the Riverboat Ramblers.

This year marks the return of the very popular classic car Show& Shine for its sixth year. The Show & Shine will be located at the Safeway parking lot, just to the south of the Safeway building.

Arts and crafts stalls will be located throughout Granville St., displaying local artists’ handiwork.

The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Department, Marpole Soccer Club, Marpole Historical Society & Museum, and many other local groups will also be participating.

Marpole Summerfest Schedule of Events – Saturday, July 9th, 2011

JUN 2011 — Join us in friendly, neighbourhood Marpole for the 11th Annual Marpole Summerfest event — this Saturday, July 9th.

Marpole Summerfest is a free, family-oriented community celebration held along Granville Street (between 63rd and 71st Avenues) in the Marpole commercial district.

From 11 AM to 3 PM, Granville Street will be alive with fantastic merchant sidewalk sales, special promotions and local restaurants offering tastes of the many ethnic foods & specialties available in the neighbourhood.

The wide variety of lively children’s and family-oriented entertainment at this year’s Summerfest includes the Tiller’s Folly, the Ray Myers band, the Gary Comeau Duo, the Sand Northrup One Woman Circus, Sylvia the Balloon Artiste, Bobby Loonie Magic Show, Peanuts the Clown, The Riverboat Ramblers, Noah Nine and the Rainbow Facepainters. There will also be a Kids Zone, complete with bouncy castle and the Art Express Bus, located on 67th Avenue.

In celebration of Vancouver’s 125th Birthday, there will be a special birthday cake cutting at 1 PM at the Entertainment Zone on 66th Avenue. And don’t forget to pick up your free I heart Marpole Summerfest buttons there too!

The sixth annual Show & Shine event will showcase classic cars in all their shining glory at the Safeway parking lot at 70th and Granville. You can vote for your favorite hot rod in the People’s Choice Award.

Local community groups will also be on hand for the event, including; the Coast Mountain Bus Company, Marpole Historical Society, BC Hydro, Vancouver Aquarium, and the Marpole-Oakridge Community Policing Centre.
